In recent years, there has been a significant shift in retail sales of eggs laid by caged hens. The gradual shift in demand for eggs from caged hens reflects changing consumer preferences and marks a move toward more sustainable and humane practices in the food industry. One of the main reasons for these changes is the growing consumer awareness of chicken raising methods.
MEGO stores, recognizing the change in consumer sentiment, last year increased the supply of eggs from cage-free chickens to their customers.
As a result, sales of cage-free eggs increased by more than 28% compared to 2022. In addition, last year one could also observe a change in the proportion of sales - about 37% of sales were from eggs laid in a chicken coop or free-range. These changes showed a clear trend in the market - many buyers began to gradually abandon chicken eggs laid in cages.
