The Mego store chain has initiated the procurement process for more eco-friendly shopping bags and plans to switch to 100% recyclable packaging for its culinary products by the end of this year, the company reports.
In recent years, we have been actively working to make Mego an even more environmentally friendly company by implementing various long-term development solutions. For instance, we are actively working towards switching to 100% recyclable packaging for our culinary products by the end of the year. While at the beginning of this year, the share of fully recyclable packaging for culinary products was about 15-20%, it now exceeds 50%.
In recent years, following the principles of sustainable development, Mego has also equipped its stores with energy-efficient and eco-friendly equipment and LED lighting. Additionally, the project to install solar panels on the roofs of stores is being successfully implemented.
To continue the project, Mego has initiated the procurement process for biodegradable plastic bags. The company has already received samples from potential suppliers, which are currently being evaluated, and will try to offer them to customers in its stores as soon as possible.
According to the Packaging Act, from January 1, 2025, packaging at points of sale made from paper and cardboard or other materials from natural fibers and bioplastics must replace the usual plastic shopping bags, except for transparent plastic bags.
