On Tuesday, September 17th, the Mego store in Imanta, located at Kurzemes Prospekts 132, reopened its doors after a major renovation. Over 950,000 euros were invested in the store's modernization, with a particular focus on implementing eco-friendly solutions and installing energy-efficient commercial equipment. In response to the growing demand for freshly prepared food, the store's culinary and bakery departments have been expanded.
The retail space has increased to 860 square meters, making the store not only larger, more modern, and convenient for shoppers but also equipped with advanced, energy-efficient, and eco-friendly systems and equipment. New commercial equipment with glycol cooling systems has been installed, significantly reducing the use of freon. Additionally, modern ventilation, heating, air conditioning systems, and LED lighting have been implemented. Accessibility has also been significantly improved, with the installation of a convenient ramp for wheelchairs and strollers, and the layout and aisles between shelves have been designed to ensure easy movement for wheelchair users.
Beyond the technological upgrades, the store has expanded its fresh culinary and bakery production. Seven professional chefs and pastry chefs will prepare fresh ready-to-eat meals, including dozens of varieties of hot and cold dishes, pastries, pizzas, desserts, and buns. The newly renovated culinary and bakery department will nearly double in size, occupying 120 square meters.
Mego has been operating on Kurzemes Prospekts for 23 years and is one of the most popular stores in the area, as well as one of four Mego stores in Imanta. This is the first store in Riga to be renovated and modernized according to Mego's new design concept.
As part of its sustainable development strategy, Mego plans to renovate 3-5 stores annually starting next year, enhancing the shopping experience in its stores while continuing to implement eco-friendly solutions across the network. This year, Mego has renovated two stores (in Carnikava and Imanta), plans to renovate another 1-2 stores, and opened a new store in Daugavpils. A total of approximately 3.6 million euros has been invested in store renovations and new openings in 2024.
